i've found that my music tastes have started drastically expanding over the summer, and I've found myself listening to a fair amount of electronica, hip hop, metal, and stuff that I wouldn't normally listen to....
but my poor mind can't help it and if someone asks me "What do you think of MGMT" i'm like "oh, dont really like them", then I go home and listen to their album while crying myself to sleep.
plz advise.
Fact: I too am a complete eliteest prick who gets kicks off of insulting other peoples tastes in mainstream music. However, I listen to a FUCKLOAD of J-pop. So, yeah. I don't really care, but it obviously makes me look like quite a hypocrite in many eyes. Oh well, I'd take Utada hikaru over shite emo-metalcore and faggotshit rap music anyday. (A7X, and Flo Rida can suck my harbl)
Also, I use to not care for QoTSA and Incubus until I heard No One Knows, and 3& 7's (QoSTA), and Anna Molly (incubus). Now I think they're awesome... well, maybe not Incubus, but I'm making a point here.
My advice is not giving a shit, break your elitest views on one band, and devert such hatred to another or something like that.
Maybe you should take it more slowly. It must be too much for your system to accept that you've branched out so much so soon.
it's not really a problem, just don't let it affect you as a person too much and it'll be fine.

I've always liked varied music I listen to rock then metal then J-pop/J-rock them some punk so..... just GO WITH THE FLOW (ROFL)
My friend had a Maximo Park album and I was like "Dude what the hell, you like Maximo Park?", he said "no, it's my dads". "Ohh, your dad bought a maximo park album. That's still bad.", so he said.. "Well, no, I bought it but I'm going to uni so I'm giving him my albums and stuff."
So what he basically meant is "IM LEAVING MY CRAP AT HOME. MAXIMO PARK? OH LOOK A RAINBOW *points* *runs away*".
Just accept it, you like listening to some shite music. Nothing wrong with that.

I'll be honest I've never properly listened to them, but what I have heard is just.. like.. monotonous. There's no essence to their music, unlike my favourite band, The Cheeky Girls.

I don't see what's wrong with your music tastes widening, really. I like it when I listen to something I wouldn't normally listen to. The only thing that pisses me off is that we're not made of money and we want all their albums sooner or later...
I'd say just live with it. It's not a problem.
